The SunTrac solar thermal panel has ventured beyond its HVAC application and extended its functionality to cover refrigeration. Two refrigeration projects supplemented by the panel were recently commissioned in Hawaii:
Ten SunTrac panels supplementing Fresh Island Fish’s refrigeration system in Honolulu, Hawaii. The enhanced system recorded 18% energy savings and a 13% decrease in demand, with a calculated incentive of about $17,000.
Twenty-four SunTrac panels supplementing Food Solutions International‘s refrigeration system in Waipio, Hawaii. The project recently had an open house hosted by ASHRAE, in which the panels were core securing the project. Energy savings are already being realized as data continues to be collected for long-term analysis.
Both projects qualified for energy efficiency rebates from Hawaii Energy, the state-mandated organization set up to use a fund from the utility company to incentivize the adoption of energy efficiency solutions. These projects were certified for energy efficiency using internationally accepted Efficiency Valuation Organization’s IVMP Option B.
